THIS STUDY DISCUSSES WAYS TO IMPLEMENT A PROACTIVE WEAPONS PLANNING MODEL WHICH FOSTERS WEAPONRY SELECTION COMPATIBLE WITH THE THEORIZED FUNCTION OF THE OFFICERS WHO WILL USE THE WEAPONS.
Abstract
THE CRITERIA FOR WEAPON SELECTION WOULD BE DERIVED FROM CONFRONTATIONAL NEEDS WHICH ARE COMPATIBLE WITH DELINEATED AGENCY ROLE MODELS. THE METHODOLOGY INVOLVES BOTH THE DETERMINATION OF AGENCY POLICY AS TO A DESIRED ROLE, AND THE ARMAMENT NEEDS OF OFFICERS IN THE FIELD, DERIVED FROM THE PREVALENCE OF CERTAIN CRIMES AND/OR ATTACKS ON OFFICERS. THOROUGH PROACTIVE WEAPONS PLANNING ANALYSIS, CLAIMS THE AUTHOR, WOULD REDUCE THE POTENTIAL FOR ARMAMENT TO INDISCRIMINATELY NEGATE THE MODEL IMAGE AN AGENCY SEEKS TO ATTAIN.
