Abstract
This video is designed to present the dangers of methamphetamine use to teenagers. The video begins by telling the viewer what methamphetamine is and how it affects its user. The viewer learns that methamphetamine is a stimulant made from ephedrine and other chemicals such as battery acid, antifreeze, and drain cleaner. Teenagers, police officers, and a coroner offer their experiences of methamphetime use as the viewer learns that methamphetamine increases the heart rate, raises blood pressure, and reduces appetite. Long-term damage includes brain damage, addiction, major personality changes, and extreme weight loss. The video also presents a three-step refusal process for teenagers who are offered methamphetamines. Teenagers are instructed to avoid situations where methamphetamine use is likely or leave places where they encounter it. Finally, the video outlines some indicators of methamphetmine addiction, which include breaking promises to quit using the substance and minimizing the amount of methamphetamine used. This video is accompanied by a teacher’s guide.
