RECOMMENDED DRUG REFERRAL PATTERNS AND OBSERVATIONS OF FACTORS WHICH INTERFERE WITH THE EFFECTIVE OPERATION OF DRUG TREATMENT PROGRAMS.
Abstract
CLIENTS AND STAFF MEMBERS AT 21 DRUG TREATMENT PROGRAMS WERE INTERVIEWED AND COMPARED WITH A GROUP OF WARDS OF THE CALIFORNIA YOUTH AUTHORITY WHO WERE KNOWN TO BE INVOLVED WITH OPIATES AND DANGEROUS DRUGS. THE AUTHORS PRESENT SUMMARIES OF THE TYPES OF CLIENTS FOUND IN DIFFERENT TREATMENT PROGRAMS, THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ETHNICITY, PRIMARY DRUG USED AND OTHER CLIENT CHARACTERISTICS, AND THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PROGRAM CLIENTS AND OTHER SAMPLE GROUPS. CLIENT PROFILES ARE PRESENTED, CONTAINING STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT PATTERNS OF CLIENT PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAMS COVERED IN THE STUDY. THERE IS ALSO A DISCUSSION OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL PROGRAM PROBLEMS.
