VoiceTrack is a voice verification technology that offers the potential for improving community supervision of offenders and reducing inmate populations while meeting security requirements.
Abstract
Over-reliance on prisons and jails has resulted in large expenditures for corrections and major competition among education, health care, and corrections advocates. New technologies such as electronic monitoring have only recently begun offering significant new service and delivery methods to the corrections professional. VoiceTrack is an interactive information system that combines a patented voice verification technology with a unique telephone technology to provide true accountability for an offender's whereabouts. The offender calls an 800 number on a structured schedule or in response to a random page. The case officer can be notified in less than 3 minutes if the offender fails to call in or calls in from a wrong location or if the voice fails to verify. This system also provides an additional case management tool as a result of the constant online documentation of the client's performance. The expanded technology can become the basis for a renewed dialogue between institutional and community service professionals and can predict costs per offender at the time of enrollment. Photographs
