THIS REPORT DESCRIBES FEASIBILITY EXPERMENTS WITH VOICE DATA ENTRY TERMINAL SYSTEMS (VDETS) FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT APPLICATIONS.
Abstract
TWO APPLICATIONS INVESTIGATED WERE: USE OF VDETS AS A KEYBOARD REPLACEMENT FOR MOBILE AND BASE STATION DATA ENTRY TERMINALS. THIS ENABLES THE OPERATOR OR FIELD OFFICER TO QUERY A COMPUTER-BASED DATA SYSTEM WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF A RELAY OPERATOR, AND WITHOUT THE NECESSITY OF TYPING INSTRUCTIONS VIA A KEYBOARD. THE SECOND APPLICATION INVOLVED ACCESS TO A VDETS UNIT OVER A MOBILE/PORTABLE RADIO CHANNEL. THIS WOULD PERMIT A FIELD OFFICER TO QUERY A COMPUTER-BASED DATA FILE FROM A MOBIL/PORTABLE RADIO WITH VDETS EQUIPMENT LOCATED AT THE BASE STATION. THE RESULTS OF THESE APPLICATIONS ARE SUMMARIZED.(AUTHOR ABSTRACT)...TWH
