FINAL EVALUATION OF THE FIRST TWO PHASES OF A PROGRAM IN VIRGINIA TO REDUCE SPECIFIC TARGET CRIMES OVER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME IN 11 JURISDICTIONS THROUGHOUT THE STATE.
Abstract
THE TARGET CRIMES WERE BURGLARY AND ROBBERY. PHASE I INVOLVED IMPLEMENTATION OF REDUCTION AND PREVENTION TACTICS IN FAIRFAX COUNTY, RICHMOND, AND NORFOLK IN MID-1973. PHASE II INCLUDED IMPLEMENTATION OF SIMILAR PROJECTS IN ALEXANDRIA, ARLINGTON COUNTY, NEWPORT NEWS, PORTSMOUTH, ROANOKE, VIRGINIA BEACH, HAMPTON, AND HENRICO COUNTY AT VARYING TIMES BEGINNING IN NOVEMBER 1973. FINDINGS ARE PRESENTED BY EACH PROJECT AS WELL AS BY PROJECT ELEMENTS. THE CONTINUATION OF HIT ACTIVITIES FOLLOWNG TERMINATION OF GRANT FUNDING ON JUNE 30, 1976 IS DESCRIBED. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE IN THE AREAS OF DCJP (VIRGINIA'S DIVISION OF JUSTICE AND CRIME PREVENTION) GRANT PROCESS, POLICE OPERATIONS, COMMUNITY AWARENESS, CRIME ANALYSIS, AND GRANT PLANNING....EB
