The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 provides for 100,000 new police officers, $9.7 billion in funding for prisons, and $6.1 billion in funding for crime prevention programs and also significantly expands the government's ability to deal with problems caused by criminal aliens.
Abstract
Substantive criminal provisions of the act cover assault weapons, the death penalty, domestic abusers, firearms and firearm licensing, fraud, gang crimes, immigration, juveniles, the registration of sexually violent offenders, repeat sex offenders, three strikes, and crime victims. Immigration initiatives contained in the act are listed, as well as grant programs for the 1995-2000 period. Fact sheets and information are provided that describe grant programs related to public safety and community policing, correctional facilities and boot camps, drug courts, the National Criminal History Improvement Program, criminal alien assistance, violence against women, delinquent and at-risk youth, DNA analysis, State courts, residential substance abuse treatment, rural law enforcement, youth services and supervision, gang resistance education, urban recreation for at- risk youth, violent crime, and drug emergency areas.
