Abstract
The featured effort of the Detroit VRN site involved the development of common analytical approaches and information-sharing strategies among partner criminal justice agencies and across local violence-reduction initiatives. Following an overview of activities in all VRN sites, highlights from each of the sites are reported. An overview of the features of federal resources provided under the VRN encompasses assessments of each site's policies and procedures related to reducing violence, training and technical assistance resources for reducing violent crime, peer learning and sharing opportunities, and the services of a site-specific team to guide involvement in VRN resource offerings. One section of the newsletter provides data and insights on the cost of violent crime, indicating why it should be a high priority for jurisdictions to counter violence. Descriptions of various VRN resource programs cover the Los Angeles Police Department's Crimefighters Leadership Conference and the VRN website, clearinghouse, and contact information. Cumulative statistics as of March 31, 2017, cover the peer exchanges, resource documents cataloged, training and technical assistance hours and programs conducted, number of participants, and website documents downloaded.
