This third Quarterly Newsletter (April-June 2015) of the first fiscal year of the U.S. Justice Department's launching of the Violence Reduction Network (VRN) provides a descriptive and statistical review of VRN activities generally and specifically in the five sites that compose the VRN (Camden, NJ; Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Oakland/Richmond, CA; and Wilmington, DE).
Abstract
This newsletter, along with the previous two newsletters, reports the cumulative statistics and program highlights of the VRN. The VRN is committed to providing these sites with resources that include funding, training, and technical assistance directed to efforts to reduce violence in these cities. The resources provided include peer exchanges among VRN sites and/or cities with model practices, along with training and targeted assistance from nationally recognized subject-matter experts. Planning is underway for the second annual summit, which will be held in Detroit on September 28-30, 2015. It will focus on the outcomes and operational impacts produced by VRN resources delivered to the sites and local communities. The Virtual Forum in April 2015 provided feedback on the assistance being provided to the sites. The VRN leadership relies on the regular calls from each site team as a source of information on the sites' progress and how VRN can better assist them in violence-reduction efforts. The Site Highlights section of this newsletter provides an overview of the activities that have occurred, as well as the outcomes and impact of the resource deliveries in each of the five sites. The Office of Justice Program's (OJP's) VRN Diagnostic Center website is profiled.
