This book is a practitioner’s guide for violence prediction research, training, and assessment designed for the use of forensic science professionals.
Abstract
The book presents an overall dangerousness prediction (violence prediction) methodology guide beginning with a review of the history of the study of aberrant and violent behavior followed by a discussion of the evolution of scientific efforts to predict such behavior. It provides an overview of common mistakes made in violence prediction, including the failure to consider the effects of mental illness on a clinical subject. The book also presents information concerning the recognition of human developmental experiences that correlate to later in life violence, the identification of opportunity factors for violence, the isolation of violence triggering stimuli, and the recognition of violence inhibitors. Features of the book include a literature review, and analysis of research contributions to the field of violence/dangerousness prediction, case studies, a guide to conducting dangerousness prediction clinical interviews and model forms for use by the practitioner in developing their own dangerousness prediction programs.
