This book examines the latest techniques and strategies for intervening with victims of all forms of family violence.
Abstract
The theoretical aspects of intervention are focused on in an overview of the problem of domestic violence. The specific treatment areas include the treatment of spouse abuse, child abuse, child sexual abuse, and adults molested as children; elder abuse and neglect; and a general treatment model for working with victims of trauma. Treatment for spouse abuse includes comprehensive crisis intervention, Gestalt therapy, and group treatment for male abusers. Child abuse treatment includes the multidisciplinary team approach, dealing with unmotivated clients, and community coordination. The cognitive-behavioral approach, the multidimensional roles of therapists, and nonverbal communication in treatment of child sexual abuse are discussed as well as incest issues and treatment. Elder abuse and neglect issues include the response of society to this problem and specific interventions for treatment. A contextual theoretical model is presented for assessing and treating victims of a variety of traumatic stressors. Index
