DESCRIPTIVE ANALYSIS OF THE TWO MODELS OF VIGILANTE MOVEMENTS WHICH DEVELOPED DURING THE EIGHTEENTH AND NINETEENTH CENTURY - THE SOCIALLY CONSTRUCTIVE MODEL AND THE SOCIALLY DESTRUCTIVE MODEL.
Abstract
THE SOCIALLY CONSTRUCTIVE OR 'GOOD' MODEL DEALT WITH A PROBLEM OF DISORDER AND THEN DISBANDED, THEREBY INCREASING THE SOCIAL STABILITY OF THE LOCALITY. WITH THE 'BAD' OR SOCIALLY DESTRUCTIVE MODEL, A VIGILIANTE MOVEMENT ENCOUNTERED SUCH STRONG OPPOSITION THAT THE RESULT WAS AN ANARCHIC AND SOCIALLY DESTRUCTIVE VIGILANTE WAR.
