This volume summarizes the current state of video surveillance, with emphasis on closed-circuit television technology.
Abstract
The accessibility, ease of installation, and versatility of closed-circuit television have been enhanced by advances in solid-state integrated circuitry and the development of more compact, less expensive cameras and monitors. Such systems are now used for remote observation in industry, retail sales, medical care, education, and other fields. Those analyzing a facility's video security needs should weigh the advantages of surveillance fields, monitoring criteria, and supervision requirements. The latest cameras, monitors, and video recorders provide composite video signal, night viewing, and time-lapse video recording capabilities. Signal processing, special effects, and color are being refined and are coming into wider use. In procuring video security systems, equipment characteristics and maintenance needs should be considered and a reliability analysis undertaken. Prerequisites for system installation are detailed planning; site preparation; assessment of labor, wiring, and cable costs; and setting up test patterns for evaluating system performance. Photographs, a glossary, and an index are provided.
