This article provides an overview of the Ventura Youth Correctional Facility in California housing youthful female offenders.
Abstract
The article focuses on specialized programs within the Ventura Youth Correctional Facility (VYCF) consisting of six female living units with female offenders ranging from age 13 to 25. Programs discussed in the article are: the Buenaventura Specialized Counseling Program for violent female offenders; the Alborada Intensive Treatment Program for severely emotionally disturbed females who have histories of major mental disorders; the Mira Loma Female Drug and Alcohol Abuse Treatment Program designed to address the unique problems of the drug-addicted female offender; the VYCF Education Program enabling students who have fallen behind academically the opportunity to catch up; and the VYCF Work Experience Program offered to youth who need a more practical applied program. Additional services are briefly discussed: religious, counseling, psychiatric/psychological, medical, and volunteer program.
