THE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY OF THE CARACAS CITY POLICE TESTS RECRUIT INTELLIGENCE QUOTIENTS, SUBJECT KNOWLEDGE, SOCIAL ADAPTATION, AND PSYCHO-PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS.
Abstract
WHEREAS PREVIOUSLY POLICE OFFICERS ENTERED THE FORCE WITHOUT ANY KIND OF EXAMINATION, OVER 18,000 CANDIDATES HAVE BEEN EXAMINED SINCE 1966. THE SUICIDE RATE AMONG OFFICERS IN THE FOUR YEARS PRECEDING AND THE FOUR YEARS FOLLOWING THE INTRODUCTION OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTS IS CITED TO SHOW THE SUCCESS OF THE METHOD. DURING THESE EIGHT YEARS THERE WERE 81 SUICIDES OF WHICH 74 WERE PERSONS WHO HAD NOT BEEN SUBJECTED TO PSCHOLOGICAL TESTS. THE REMAINING HAD UNDERGONE TEST BUT HAD BEEN CLASSED LOW ON THE QUALITATIVE SCALE.
