A SURVEY CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE OPINIONS, CONCERN, AND KNOWLEDGE REGARDING CRIME AND THE TOTAL SYSTEM IN THE PREPARATION FOR A STATEWIDE PUBLIC EDUCATION PROGRAM.
Abstract
CRIME WAS GENERALLY PERCEIVED AS A SERIOUS STATEWIDE PROBLEM AND NOT A PARTICULARLY SERIOUS LOCAL PROBLEM. EXCEPT AMONG THE SMALL CHICANO AND BLACK POPULATIONS, THE POLICE WERE FOUND TO BE HELD IN HIGH REGARD IN UTAH. THE COURTS, ON THE OTHER HAND, WERE RATED QUITE POORLY BY ALL GROUPS AND THE CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM DID NOT RATE MUCH HIGHER. ONE OF THE APPENDICES COVERS THE AREA OF THE MORMON CHURCH AND DISCRIMINATION IN UTAH. (AUTHOR MODIFIED).
