This report provides information on the U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator's (IPEC's) 2011 intellectual property enforcement efforts.
Abstract
In 2010, IPEC issued a strategy for protecting U.S. intellectual property rights. This strategy was developed with input from numerous Federal agencies including the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Justice, and State; the U.S. Treasury; the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative; and the U.S. Copyright Office. Steps taken in 2011 to implement this strategy include voluntary implementation of best practices by the private sector to curb the sale of counterfeit goods and reduce online piracy; aggressive efforts by U.S. law enforcement agencies to fight counterfeiters, pirates, and others who wish to steal American innovations; significant progress in agency coordination to ensure that resources are being used in the most efficient manner; and the development and issuance of a set of legislative recommendations designed to strengthen intellectual property enforcement. This report also provides information on efforts to enforce U.S. intellectual property rights internationally with a specific focus on China, as well as performance data on Federal agencies' enforcement efforts.
