THIS ARTICLE EXAMINES THE UNITED STATES' EFFORTS TO DETER TERRORISM, OUTLINES U.S. INITIATIVES IN THE CONTROL OF TERRORISM, AND DELINEATES THE CONTINUING U.S. POLICY WITH RESPECT TO TERRORIST ACTS.
Abstract
THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM OF TERRORISM IS BRIEFLY DISCUSSED. SUCH DETERRENCE ACTIVITIES AS IMPROVED INTERNATIONAL INTELLIGENCE, INCREASED SECURITY MEASURES, ADVICE ON SECURITY TO AMERICAN CIVILIANS, AND TIGHTENING OF VISA IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS PROCEDURES ARE SUMMARIZED. IN ADDITION, THE UNITED STATES' ROLE IN MULTILATERAL CONVENTIONS DEALING WITH HIJACKING, IN LIAISONS WITH INDIVIDUAL GOVERNMENTS OPPOSED TO TERRORISM, AND IN UNITED NATIONS' ACTIVITIES DEALING WITH TERRORISM ARE DISCUSSED.
