Abstract
THE NEEDS OF POLICE DEPARTMENTS, BUS COMPANIES, TAXI OPERATIONS AND OTHER DISPATCHED SERVICE OPERATIONS AS POTENTIAL USERS OF AVM ARE CONSIDERED. PROJECTIONS ARE THEN MADE IN AN ATTEMPT TO ESTIMATE THE POTENTIAL MARKET FOR AVM SERVICES. COSTS, PRICING POLICIES, FINANCING, AND THE ORGANIZATION OF AVM SYSTEMS ARE DISCUSSED. A CHAPTER IS DEVOTED TO DISCUSSION OF THE POSSIBLE TYPES OF REGULATION AND CONTROL OF THE SYSTEMS. APPENDIXES CONTAIN SUPPLEMENTARY STATISTICS, OTHER AVM APPLICATIONS, ESTIMATED VEHICLE POPULATIONS FOR AVM FIRST USER GROUPS, AND A DISCUSSION OF THE PROBLEMS OF ESTIMATING AVM POLICE BENEFITS. FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND THE SUMMARY REPORT, SEE NCJ-009573 AND NCJ-009574.
