THIS BOOKLET PRESENTS THE ANNUAL REPORTS FOR THE PERIOD OCTOBER 1, 1976, TO SEPTEMBER 30, 1977, FOR THE OPERATION OF THE UNIFORM CODE OF MILITARY JUSTICE BY THE RESPONSIBLE IMPLEMENTING AGENCIES.
Abstract
AGENCIES REPORTING INCLUDED THE U.S. COURT OF MILITARY APPEALS; THE JUDGE ADVOCATES GENERAL OF THE ARMY, NAVY, AND AIR FORCE; AND THE GENERAL COUNSEL IN THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (U.S. COAST GUARD). DATA PRESENTED COVER THE NUMBER OF CASES DOCKETED, THE NATURE OF THE CASES, CASE DISPOSITIONS, CHANGES IN PROCEDURE DURING THE YEAR, THE STATUS OF COURTS AND THEIR PERSONNEL, AND RELATED ACTIVITIES. SIGNIFICANT DECISIONS AFFECTING THE ADMINISTRATION OF MILITARY JUSTICE WITHIN THE ARMED FORCES ARE SUMMARIZED. DURING THE 1977 TERM, A TOTAL OF 2,222 CASES WERE DOCKETED IN THE U.S. COURT OF MILITARY APPEALS. INCLUDED WERE 2,061 PETITIONS, FOR GRANT OF REVIEW, 19 CERTIFICATES OF REVIEW, AND 142 PETITIONS FOR EXTRAORDINARY RELIEF. THE COURT RENDERED 81 OPINIONS ON 78 GRANTS OF REVIEW, 1 CERTIFICATE OF REVIEW, 1 PETITION FOR EXTRAORDINARY RELIEF, AND 1 MOTION TO DISMISS.
