Abstract
An important development in 1992 that affected not only NICRI but all United Nations criminal justice bodies was the convening of the first session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. This new body, which replaces the Committee on Crime Prevention and Control, is now the principal policymaking body of the United Nations in this field. The priorities identified by the Commission for the biennium 1992-93 have had a significant influence on the formulation of UNICRI's work program for 1993. The research and training focus of UNICRI will be on national and transnational crime, organized crime, economic crime, including money laundering, and the role of criminal law in the protection of the environment; crime prevention in urban areas and juvenile and violent criminality; and efficiency, fairness, and improvement in the management and administration of criminal justice and related systems. Another significant event in which UNICRI was involved in 1992 was the International Victimization Survey in more than 30 countries around the world.
