This is the Report on the 22nd session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held December 7, 2012, and April 22-26, 2013.
Abstract
The first chapter reports on matters calling for action by the Commission's Economic and Social Council or brought to its attention. The first section of the chapter reviews seven draft resolutions to be recommended by the Economic and Social Council for adoption by the General Assembly. The second section of the chapter presents five draft resolutions for adoption by the Economic and Social Council. The other two sections of the first chapter presents draft decisions for adoption by the Economic and Social Council and 10 matters brought to the attention of the Economic and Social Council. The second chapter contains deliberations and action taken by the Commission in the areas of strategic management, budgetary, and administrative issues. The third chapter presents a thematic discussion on the challenge posed by emerging forms of crime that have a significant impact on the environment and ways to deal effectively with it. The fourth chapter reports on the deliberations and actions taken by the Commission regarding the integration and coordination of efforts by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and member states in crime prevention and criminal justice. The next three chapters report on deliberations and Commission actions taken in the following areas: the use and application of United Nations standards and norms in crime prevention and criminal justice; world crime trends and emerging issues and responses in crime prevention and criminal justice; and a follow-up to the 12th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and preparations for the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal justice. The remaining four chapters pertain to the Commission's procedural business.
