The United Kingdom police strikes of 1918-19 were the result not only of low pay, wartime inflation, low social status and a desire for consultation with management; they were also affected by the personalities of individuals such as Prime Minister Lloyd George, Commissioners Sir Edward Henry and Sir Nevil Macready, and union figure John Syme.
Abstract
They led directly to the Police Act of 1919, which began the trend to set national standards for the police, and to the formation of the Police Federation. (Author abstract)
