This report discusses the Brownsville Comprehensive Strategy for Youth and Families Project
Abstract
This report discusses the Brownsville, TX, Comprehensive Strategy for Youth and Families project, developed to reduce juvenile crime and incorporate community involvement in a collaborative approach to prevention through intervention with graduated sanctions throughout the entire Brownsville juvenile justice system. Included in this report are a community assessment followed by descriptions of setup and structure of designated work groups for the major areas of focus. These include planning team activities; data collection and analysis; resource assessment; objective decision making; management information system/automated information and referral system; planning, monitoring and evaluation; legislative/policy/systems; and outreach communication and media. The action plan includes recommendations and strategies for the following areas: prevention of serious, violent and chronic juvenile delinquency; a risk-focused approach to graduated sanctions; infrastructure of management, evaluation and implementation; year one of action plan; and outcome measures and evaluation.
