THE ULRIKSDAL POLICE ACADEMY OF SWEDEN WAS OPENED IN 1970 AND GRADUATES AROUND 700 OFFICERS A YEAR. POLICE RECRUITS UNDERGO A BASIC 40-WEEK COURSE IN POLICE THEORY AND PRACTICE, PLUS A 10-WEEK ADVANCED COURSE.
Abstract
AMONG THE COURSES TAUGHT AS PART OF THE BASIC CURRICULUM ARE GENERAL POLICE STUDIES, LAW, SWEDISH, ENGLISH, PSYCHOLOGY, PSYCHIATRY, SOCIAL WORK AND SOCIOLOGY, MEDICINE, TRAFFIC CONTROL, AND BUSINESS. PHYSICAL TRAINING AND CONDITIONING ARE EMPHASIZED, AS IS TRAINING IN WEAPONS USE. BESIDES THE BASIC PROGRAMS, ULRIKSDAL HAS A SPECIALIZED COURSE IN TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT, FROM WHICH IT GRADUATES 500 TO 700 OFFICERS A YEAR. WORKSHOPS FOR LOCAL AND REGIONAL POLICE INSTRUCTORS ENROLL AROUND 2,000 PARTICIPANTS A YEAR. A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACADEMY'S LOCALE IS INCLUDED, AS ARE MAPS OF THE AREA.
