Abstract
THE CASE INVOLVED CONTEMPT OF COURT FOR DEFYING AN INJUNCTION AGAINST PARADING WITHOUT A PERMIT. THE AUTHORS HAVE SUPPLEMENTED THEIR STUDY OF ORIGINAL SOURCES WITH INTERVIEWS WITH PEOPLE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE CASES AS DEFENDANTS, WITNESSES, AND LAWYERS. THE CASE IS RECONSTRUCTED AS IT UNFOLDED. THE AUTHORS PRESENT INFORMATION ON BEHIND THE SCENES CONFERENCES AT WHICH DEFENDANTS AND LAWYERS MADE KEY DECISIONS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
