A BRIEF DISCUSSION OF GOALS AND OBJECTIVES FOR POLICE ADMINISTRATION AND THE PROVISION OF POLICE SERVICES TO THE PUBLIC.
Abstract
IT IS SAID THAT AN EXAMINATION OF POLICE SUBCULTURAL BEHAVIORS AND ATTITUDES IS NECESSARY IN ATTEMPTING TO MOVE FROM A PHILOSOPHY OF POLICE WORK TO THE PROVISION OF POLICE SERVICES. ISSUES OF GENERAL CONCERN, SUCH AS THE EXERCIZE OF POLICE DISCRETION AND THE PREVENTION OF POLICE MISCONDUCT ARE DISCUSSED. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT TRENDS SUCH AS INCREASED RELIANCE ON PRIVATE POLICE WILL CONTRIBUTE TO INCREASED DECENTRALIZATION OF POLICE POWER IN THE FUTURE.
