Annotation
Because the chances of a business traveler being a victim of a violent criminal assault are much greater than they were a few years ago, this guide is intended to help the business traveler avoid being victimized by robbery, rape, or murder.
Abstract
Advice offered in the guide is based on information gathered from the National Crime Prevention Council, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Justice, and crime prevention units of several metropolitan police departments. An equally important source of information has been experiences shared by business travelers in seminars and workshops. The intent of the guide is to describe safe traveling options, and it is formatted as a "quick read" for business travelers. Initial chapters outline common myths of travel safety, address how criminals select victims, and examine how victims of nonviolent crime behave. Subsequent chapters are arranged topically so that business travelers can find what to do in specific traveling situations. Remaining chapters cover options to consider if assaulted and how business travelers must continually be on guard for new criminal ploys.
