THIS ARTICLE, WRITTEN FOR BUSINESS SECURITY MANAGERS, DISCUSSES SECURITY IMPACT ON PERSONNEL, RECOMMENDS PLANNING-RELATED TERMS FAMILIAR TO NON SECURITY MANAGERS, AND OUTLINES A PLANNED APPROACH TO SECURITY.
Abstract
NON SECURITY MANAGEMENT AND OTHER PERSONNEL NEED TO HAVE SOME KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE COSTS AND RESTRICTIONS OF SECURITY SYSTEMS TO BE ABLE TO DEFINE AND IMPLEMENT SECURITY POLICIES. MORE CONSIDERATION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO EMPLOYEE RELATIONS, FAIR EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES, COLLECTIVE BARGAINING, AND TOP MANAGEMENT WHERE THE SECURITY ORGANIZATION IS PART OF THE INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS MANAGEMENT. COMMUNICATIONS WITH OTHER MANAGERS WILL BE FACILITATED IF SECURITY MANAGERS USE SUCH TERMS AS COST-BENEFIT RATIO, INTEGRATED SECURITY SYSTEM, PROTECTION OF ASSETS, PURE RISK, AND SECURITY COUNTERMEASURE. ALL OF THESE TERMS ARE DEFINED ALONG WITH THE DESCRIPTION OF A SYSTEM WHICH USES LOGIC TREES TO DETERMINE SELECTED POINTS TO CONCENTRATE THE SECURITY COUNTERMEASURES TO OBTAIN THE BEST COST-BENEFIT RATIO. PROBABILITIES ARE DEFINED ON A FOUR POINT SCALE FROM IMPROBABLE TO VIRTUALLY CERTAIN, AND THE IMPACTS OF POSSIBLE LOSSES ARE DEFINED ON A FOUR POINT SCALE FROM NOT SERIOUS OR NEGLIGIBLE TO FATAL TO THE ENTERPRISE. DIAGRAMATIC ILLUSTRATIONS ARE INCLUDED. (TWB)
