EXISTING PROGRAMS AIMED AT THE REDUCTION OF CRIMES AGAINST PROPERTY, AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE INSTITUTION OF SPECIFIC PROGRAMS IN THE ALBUQUERQUE AREA.
Abstract
NOTEWORTHY, SELECTED PROGRAMS FROM SEVERAL MAJOR CITIES OFFERED THREE BASIC ALTERNATIVES - EQUIPMENT BASED PROGRAMS, MANPOWER BASED PROGRAMS, AND COMBINATIONS OF THE TWO. THE PROGRAMS WERE SELECTED AS BEING MOST EFFECTIVE AND ECONOMICALLY FEASIBLE FOR INSTITUTION IN METROPOLITAN ALBUQUERQUE. THE STUDY CONCENTRATED ON TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS AIMED AT THE HARDENING OF TARGETS, E.G., A LOCKING SYSTEM FOR AUTOMOBILES SUCH THAT WHEN THE IGNITION IS LOCKED, STEERING AND THE TRANSMISSION ARE IMMOBILIZED. THE PRINCIPAL RECOMMENDATION IS THE CREATION OF A BUILDING SECURITY UNIT WITHIN THE ALBUQUERQUE POLICE DEPARTMENT. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
