SYNTHESIZING RESPONSES TO A SURVEY THAT POLLED 293 SECURITY MANAGERS, THE AUTHOR OFFERS INFORMATION ON THEIR PRIORITIES AND CURRENT PRACTICES FOR TRAINING UNIFORMED, NON-SUPERVISORY SECURITY PERSONNEL.
Abstract
THE SURVEY REVEALED THAT MOST COMPANIES PROVIDE A COMBINATION OF ON-THE-JOB AND CLASSROOM TRAINING, AND THAT ALTHOUGH FEW MANAGERS USE AUDIOVISUAL MATERIALS, MOST WOULD PREFER SUPPLEMENTING CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION WITH TRANSPARENCIES AND SLIDES. ALL GROUPS SAID TRAINING IN THE USE OF FIREARMS FOR ARMED PERSONNEL IS THEIR TOP PRIORITY AMONG TRAINING SUBJECTS. A TABLE SHOWS PRIORITIES OF OTHER SUBJECTS, WHICH DIFFER ACCORDING TO THE KINDS OF SECURITY NEEDS FACED BY EACH INDUSTRY. THE MAJORITY OF THOSE POLLED INDICATED THAT UNIFORM STANDARDS FOR TRAINING NON-SUPERVISORY PERSONNEL OUGHT TO BE DEVELOPED. FURTHER, A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF RESPONDENTS SUPPORTED THE IDEA OF REQUIRING REGISTRATION OF THOSE TO WHOM SPECIFIED STANDARDS WOULD BE APPLICABLE, AND SUGGESTED THAT, IF GOVERNMENT RULES AND REGULATIONS ARE NECESSARY; THEY SHOULD BE MANDATED AT THE STATE LEVEL....KAP
