This report describes the training programs and technical assistance available for juvenile corrections professionals from the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) Academy through an interagency agreement with the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).
Abstract
Two training programs pertain to leadership and management; three programs are designed to help agencies build capacity for training; two programs address juvenile offender management; and one training program focuses on the planning of new juvenile facilities. Procedures for accessing the NIC Information Center are explained, along with procedures for receiving technical assistance from the NIC. Information on training through videoconferences encompasses the videoconference calendar, costs and logistics, site coordinators'/facilitators' role, application requirements, and videoconference program descriptions for 2001-2002. Similar information is provided for distance-learning training, NIC/OJJDP training at the NIC Training Center in Longmont, CO, and the NIC/OJJDP-Paid Training beyond Longmont, CO. For each training program, information is provided on who should attend, key elements of the program, application requirements, and a contact person. The training programs described were developed or adapted specifically for juvenile justice practitioners. Each program provides several days of intensive training, including small and large group discussions, group exercises, and shared experiences. In most cases, participants develop individual action plans or initiate projects they can implement when they return home. Registration and application forms for various types of training programs are included.
