A joint program between West Germany, France, and Great Britain offers police command officers intensive foreign language training as well as insights into the police operations and organization of each others' countries.
Abstract
The pilot program was initiated in West Germany in 1981. The first regular seminar was held in England between October 16 and November 26, 1982. Future courses are expected to rotate among the sponsoring countries and take place annually. Course participants in England were two Danish and two Dutch officers in addition to five officers from Germany and four from France. The language instruction was geared to conversational English. Study of the English police involved lectures as well as 2-day site visits to regional police departments by individual participants. Participants evaluated the program as a success and recognized its value in promoting better inter-European police cooperation.
