This article focuses on the collaboration between the South Australian Department for Correctional Services and the University of South Australia in developing a certificate program for correctional group workers.
Abstract
Discussing an innovative training program for correctional group workers, this article addresses a collaborative project between the South Australian Department for Correctional Services (DCS) and the University of South Australia. Designed to provide correctional workers with a graduate certificate, the training program stresses learning core criminogenic factors, addressing what really works in the field of corrections, and participating in group work. After discussing the particular challenges of a career in correctional work, the authors discuss the needs for correctional work training and programs to ensure that training. Highlighting the specific features of the program and the challenges and rewards of the DCS collaborating with the university, the authors justify both the need and approach of the training program.
