This book provides traffic accident investigators with formulas and tables relating to acceleration, center of mass, curves and circles, coefficient of friction, distance, speed, field measurements, and momentum.
Abstract
It is designed for such needs as determining who had the right-of-way at an intersection, establishing the length of time that it would have taken a vehicle to accelerate from a stop sign to the point of collision, and calculating a vehicle's speed from skid marks. An introductory discussion covers basic definitions and procedures in accident investigation. Then each formula is explained with equations and their applications. All problems are done in both the U.S. or Imperial and metric measurement systems. Examples are set out in detail with the problem-solving process explained step by step. Diagrams, 13 references, an index, and a 23-item bibliography are included. Appendixes provide United States and metric conversions, mathematical tables, velocity tables, and a speedometer accuracy list. (Author summary modified)
