Abstract
THE METHOD DISSECTS AN OFFENSE REPORT ACCORDING TO DEPARTMENTAL FUNCTION, DETERMINES EXACTLY WHAT HAS OCCURRED, AND MAKES NO ATTEMPT TO ANALYZE WHY IT HAS OCCURRED. THE TRACE FORMAT IS A SELECTION OF 12 MAJOR POINTS OF INTEREST TO BE APPLIED TO EACH TOTAL TRACE CONDUCTED BY POLICE PERSONNEL: ORIGINAL REPORT, ASSISTING OFFICERS, FOLLOW-UP REPORTS (DETECTIVES), SUPERVISOR, IDENTIFICATION SECTION, RECORDS SECTION, JAIL, OTHER NOTIFICATIONS (PAROLE, PROBATION, ETC.), PROPERTY SECTION, ARRESTEE DISPOSITION (DISTRICT ATTORNEY), VICTIM (SERVICE SATISFACTION), AND OTHER INTERVIEWS.
