INFORMATION FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL AND CLINICIANS ON SYMPTOMATIC BEHAVIOR AND POSSIBLE TREATMENT OF DRUG ABUSERS.
Abstract
RECENT STATISTICAL DATA INDICATE THAT A NEW SUBSTANTIAL DRUG-ABUSING POPULATION IS EMERGING. THESE ABUSERS TAKE BARBITUATES, SEDATIVES, AMPHETAMINES, AND HALLUCINOGENS. NONNARCOTIC DRUG ABUSE INVOLVES PHYSIOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOSOCIAL COMPLICATIONS SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT FROM THOSE EXHIBITED BY NACCOTIC ADDICTION, AND THOSE PERSONNEL WHO BECOME INVOLVED WITH THESE ABUSERS ARE LARGELY UNAQUAINTED WITH THEIR GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS. THIS ARTICLE PROVIDES A BASIC OVERVIEW FOR MANAGEMENT AND TREATMENT OF SUCH ABUSERS.
