This report details accomplishments of the Department of Justice during 1989 and 1990 regarding drug abuse, fraud and public corruption, organized crime, environmental crime, equal opportunity, terrorism, espionage, immigration offenses, consumer protection, tax cases, child exploitation and obscenity, sentencing guidelines, and other areas.
Abstract
Law enforcement priorities have included drug law enforcement, efforts to address violent street crime through cooperative efforts with State and local police and prosecutors, enforcement directed at white collar crime, aggressive prosecution of defense procurement fraud, and efforts against organized crime and terrorism. Other efforts have focused on promoting equal opportunity and strengthening enforcement of environmental laws. Accomplishments include successful prosecution of 19,500 drug law offenders in 1989, more than 400 convictions for major financial institution fraud, and the conviction of 2,216 corrupt public officials and their associates.
