THIS MANUAL PRESENTS PROCEDURES AND TECHNIQUES FOR UTILIZING TRACK AND TREAD MARKS AS EVIDENCE IN CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS.
Abstract
TOPICS OF DISCUSSION INCLUDE THE RECORDING OF EVIDENCE WHERE TIRE AND TREAD MARKS ARE FOUND, PROCEDURES FOR IDENTIFYING A VEHICLE FROM ITS TIRE TRACK, WHEN TRACK EVIDENCE IS INSUBSTANTIAL, AND HOW TREAD EVIDENCE CAN BE ANALYZED TO DETERMINE THE KIND OF TIRE (MANUFACTURER AND SPECIFICATIONS) ON THE VEHICLE. THIS INFORMATION CAN THEN BE USED TO NARROW THE FIELD OF SUSPECT VEHICLES TO ONLY A FEW YEARS AND MODELS. OTHER TOPICS COVERED ARE SKID AND SCUFF MARKS AND TECHNIQUES FOR RECOVERING EVIDENCE INCIDENTAL TO OR ASSOCIATED WITH TIRE AND TREAD EVIDENCE.
