This article examines the potential use of hybrid police patrol vehicles.
Abstract
The question raised is whether environmentally friendly vehicles, such as hybrids can be efficient in today's world of law enforcement. Common concerns with hybrid vehicles range from power, speed, and interior capacity. Hybrids are envisioned as ideal vehicles for detective, non-cop and D.A.R.E. units. In addition, hybrids may make the most sense in a low-speed, city environment where the bulk of the use is in and around town. Cost savings will always break down differently for any agency considering greener vehicles, depending on the individual circumstances. So, for now, hybrid technology for law enforcement is still open for debate with many questions and concerns looming.
