The use of good time management with respect to training at staff meetings and roll calls for correctional staff can result in the provision of the most information possible to correctional officers in the available time.
Abstract
Time management is not a substitute for sending staff to seminars and schools, but these approaches are not always available. Therefore, correctional managers should plan ahead regarding the subject matter to be covered in the training during a roll call or staff meeting. They should keep the information general, encourage note-taking, invite guest speakers, encourage the involvement of staff from other departments, and involve training officers. They should also choose topics that are directly related to tasks, give credit to staff for receiving the training, encourage questions and discussion, and avoid time wasters such as socializing and trying to cover too much material. 5 references.
