THE TRAFFIC LAW ENFORCEMENT SYSTEM IS REVIEWED, BASED ON EXPERIENCES OF A TRAFFIC OFFICER IN A METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT, TO HELP MOTORISTS DETERMINE IF THEY ARE GUILTY OF OFFENSES INDICATED ON TRAFFIC TICKETS.
Abstract
IN COLLECTING INFORMATION FOR THE BOOK, THE AUTHOR SPENT OVER 2.5 YEARS WRITING AND COLLECTING PHOTOGRAPHS FOR HIS 'TICKET BOOK.' CONTACT WAS MADE WITH POLICE OFFICIALS FROM EACH OF THE 50 STATES. INFORMATION WAS OBTAINED ON THE ENTIRE TRAFFIC LAW ENFORCEMENT SYSTEM, FROM THE POLICE OFFICER'S PERSONALITY TO THE FINAL COURT VERDICT. THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF INFORMATION ARE INCORPORATED IN THE BOOK: WHO GIVES TRAFFIC TICKETS, HOW, AND WHY; WHETHER A PERSON SHOULD GO TO COURT AND HOW AN INDIVIDUAL SHOULD PLEAD; HOW TO FIGURE OUT WHETHER TO PLEAD INNOCENT OR GUILTY; CASE PREPARATION; WHAT TERMS COURT PERSONNEL USE REALLY MEAN; WHAT THE VERDICT WILL MEAN IN TERMS OF FINANCE AND HOW IT WILL AFFECT THE DRIVING RECORD; TIPS ON HOW TO AVOID BEING STOPPED IN THE FUTURE; AND PROTECTIONS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE COURT SYSTEM. SPECIFIC TOPICS COVERED IN THE BOOK INCLUDE POLICE OFFICERS AND THEIR PROCEDURES FOR ISSUING TICKETS, RADAR, CITATIONS, TYPES OF TICKETS, THE WAY THE TRAFFIC LAW ENFORCEMENT SYSTEM WORKS, ALTERNATIVES TO PROTESTING A TRAFFIC TICKET, AND DEALING WITH RED TAPE. A GLOSSARY OF TERMS AND NUMEROUS ILLUSTRATIONS ARE INCLUDED. (DEP)
