The treatment continuum for adolescents at Three Rivers Youth (TRY) in Pittsburgh has contributed to successful outcomes with a population of high-risk youth.
Abstract
The current mix of services at TRY includes seven residential and four nonresidential programs. Residential programs available to adolescents referred by States and counties include two group homes, two residential teen parent programs, a staff-secure residential intensive treatment unit, a small apartment living program for adolescent girls, and a program for runaway and homeless youth. Additional services include educational/vocational training, day treatment, assistance for teenage parents, and a partial hospitalization program for adolescents. In TRY's continuum of work with high-risk youth, a therapeutic environment is created using a family systems approach. TRY employs staff advocacy on behalf of clients and empowers staff to work with young people and their families. The therapeutic environment involves assessment, corrective parenting activities, and activities designed to promote a holding environment for youth. Staff are empowered to provide appropriate services through service and staff integration, the wholistic use of staff, and staff training. 2 references
