Abstract
The Third National Symposium on Victims of Federal Crime, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime, focused on using time, talent, technology, and teamwork to strengthen and improve services to victims of Federal crime. This symposium outline provided participants with an agenda and specific information on: workshop descriptions; speaker biographies; exhibitors; and a participant list. Several perspectives were incorporated into the vast workshops: (1) basic issues -- laying the foundation for victim assistance; (2) advanced issues -- in-depth exploration of specialized assistance; (3) international/immigrant victim issues; (4) resources for crime victims and those who assist them; (5) preventing burnout while assisting crime victims; (6) law enforcement/investigative issues; (7) financial fraud issues; (8) prosecution stage issues; and (9) corrections issues. Symposium participants were able to learn about new and emerging trends in the Federal criminal justice field, practices being implemented addressing Federal crime and improved support for victims, and ways to effectively coordinate resources and services. The symposium offered encouragement for the development of victim assistance programs within Federal agencies.
