A COMPILATION OF CONSTITUTIONAL AND STATUTORY PROVISIONS INSTITUTING ELEMENTS OF THE MERIT JUDICIAL SELECTION PLAN FOR THE SELECTION OF SOME MEMBERS OF THE JUDICIARY IN FOURTEEN STATES (AS OF 1968).
Abstract
ALSO INCLUDED ARE THE SELECTION PROCEDURES OF THE MODEL JUDICIAL ARTICLE OF THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION. THE FOURTEEN STATES WHICH EMPLOY ELEMENTS OF MERIT SELECTION ARE ALABAMA, ALASKA, CALIFORNIA, COLORADO, FLORIDA, IDAHO, ILLINOIS, KANSAS, IOWA, MISSOURI, NEBRASKA, OKLAHOMA, UTAH AND VERMONT. THE FIRST APPENDIX IS A CHART OF THE VARIATIONS IN THE COMPOSITION AND FUNCTIONS OF THE JUDICIAL NOMINATING COMMISSION BODIES, AND THE SECOND LISTS THE NAMES OF THE COURTS AND THE APPROXIMATE NUMBER OF JUDGES IN EACH COURT TO WHOM THE MERIT PROVISIONS APPLY (AS OF 1968).
