Abstract
COMPREHENSIVE BUT SIMPLIFIED DESCRIPTIONS OF BOTH FELONY AND MISDEMEANOR CASES AS THEY ARE PROCESSED BY A TYPICAL PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE. THESE PROCESSES ARE ILLUSTRATED IN FLOW CHART FORM TO PROVIDE A MEANS FOR ESTABLISHING A REFERENCE POINT FOR THE ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION OF THE AREAS INCLUDED IN THE STUDY. DESCRIPTIONS ARE PROVIDED FOR THE INTERFACE WITH THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE IN REGARD TO COORDINATION WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, IDENTIFICATION OF REPEAT OFFENDERS, SCREENING OF CASES, FORMALITY OF INDICTMENT, JOINDER OF OFFENSES IN A SINGLE TRIAL, COORDINATION WITH COUNTY AND DISTRICT CLERKS, AVAILABILITY OF THE COURT DOCKET, AND ABILITY TO BRIEF CASES. PROCEDURES AND COMPENSATION SCALES ARE DISCUSSED RURAL, METROPOLITAN AND MAJOR METROPOLITAN PROSECUTORS OFFICES ARE DISCUSSED SEPARATELY WITH REGARD TO LOGISTICAL STRUCTURING OF RESPONSIBILITY, ORGANIZATION, STAFFING LEVELS AND REQUIREMENTS, FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT, AND COMPENSATION.
