ESSENTIAL PROCEDURES FOR GOOD TEST ITEM SELECTION AND THE CONSTRUCTION, USE, ADMINISTRATION, AND EVALUATION OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF TESTS ARE OFFERED IN THIS BOOK, AS ARE PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS FOR TRAINING PERSONNEL.
Abstract
THE ELEMENTS AND DEVELOPMENT OF AN EVALUATION PLAN ARE OUTLINED IN THE BEGINNING CHAPTER, AND THE REASONS FOR TESTING AND ITS VALUE TO BOTH MANAGEMENT AND TRAINEES ARE GIVEN. SUBSEQUENT CHAPTERS OUTLINE PRINCIPLES OF TEST CONSTRUCTION, INCLUDING ORGANIZATION OF INSTRUCTION, STEPS IN TEST CONSTRUCTION, TYPES OF TESTS, THE DEVELOPMENT AND WORDING OF GOOD TEST ITEMS, AND THE FITTING OF TESTS INTO THE INSTRUCTIONAL PATTERN. INFORMATION ON THE CONSTRUCTION AND GRADING OF ESSAY TESTS IS GIVEN AS WELL AS QUESTION-AND-ANSWER STANDARDS FOR ORAL QUESTIONS AND INFORMATION ON ESSAY TEST CONSTRUCTION AND ADMINISTRATION. SITUATION OR INCIDENT TEST ITEMS ARE EXAMINED, AND THE WEAKNESSES AND ADVANTAGES OF ALTERNATE-RESPONSE TEST ITEMS ARE DESCRIBED. ADDITIONAL CHAPTERS INCLUDE SUGGESTIONS FOR WRITING MULTIPLE-CHOICE TEST ITEMS, MATCHING TEST ITEMS, AND USING FILL-IN OR COMPLETION ITEMS. THE DEVELOPMENT, PLANNING, AND ADMINISTRATION OF PERFORMANCE TESTS ARE DISCUSSED, AND THE ADMINISTRATION AND REPORTING OF TRAINING EVALUATION ARE DESCRIBED.
