CONCEPTUAL ANALYSIS OF THE PHENOMENON OF TERRORISM AND A CRIMINOLOGICAL APPROACH TO THE TERRORIST.
Abstract
IN THE OPINION OF THE AUTHOR IT IS ALWAYS THE STRONGER OR BEST ESTABLISHED PARTY THAT CALLS ITS FORCEFUL OPPONENT A TERRORIST. CONSEQUENTLY, IT CAN HAPPEN THAT THE FORMER TERRORIST BECOMES PART OF A NEWLY ESTABLISHED ORDER, AND THE FORMERLY ESTABLISHED ORDER GOES INTO TERRORIST ACTIVITIES. APART FROM POLITICAL TERRORISM, THE AUTHOR RECOGNISES CIVIL TERRORISM AND GIVES THE EXAMPLE OF THE NORTH AMERICAN RACKETEERS WHO LIVE BY EXTORTION. POLITICAL TERRORISM, ACCORDING TO THE AUTHOR IS OFTEN IMPORTED, AND THE CONFLICT THAT CREATES TERRORIST ACTIVITIES OFTEN SHARPENS IT. TERRORISM IS VERY OFTEN COUNTERPRODUCTIVE. THE TERRORIST DISTINGUISHES HIMSELF FROM THE 'NORMAL' CRIMINAL BY HIS POLITICAL CONVICTION WHICH GIVES HIM FEELINGS OF REVENGE AND AGGRESSION WHICH IN MANY CASES IS ATTENDED BY A SELF-DESTRUCTIVE ATTITUDE. --IN DUTCH
