THIS STUDY WAS DESIGNED TO DETERMINE IF THE CLASSIFICATIONS AND TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INMATE REHABILITATION WERE BEING FOLLOWED THROUGH.
Abstract
THE FIRST PART OF THIS PAPER IS CONCERNED WITH THE TIME AN INCOMING INMATE SPENDS IN CLASSIFICATION PROCESSING. IT WAS FOUND TO BE AN EXCESSIVELY LONG TIME - NEARLY 50 DAYS. THE FIRST FOLLOW-UP STUDY REVEALED THAT ONLY 18 PERCENT OF THE INMATES WERE BEING PLACED IN THE RECOMMENDED PROGRAM. THESE DATA WERE JUDGED INADEQUATE AND A SECOND FOLLOW-UP STUDY WAS UNDERTAKEN. THIS SECOND STUDY SHOWS THAT A MUCH HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF INMATES WERE SENT TO THE INSTITUTIONS THAT WERE RECOMMENDED THAN WERE PLACED IN RECOMMENDED TREATMENT PROGRAMS. DATA CONCERNING THESE PLACEMENTS ARE PRESENTED.
