This curriculum manual consists of 13 lessons designed to educate secondary school students about ways they can prevent crimes against themselves, their families, their friends, and their communities.
Each lesson includes learning objectives, text, and discussion questions and exercises. Overviews note that teenagers are the most frequent targets of crime and provide definitions of crimes. They also discuss the effects of crime on victims and victim rights and services and give suggestions for reporting. Detailed lessons consider the nature and specific techniques for preventing and addressing violent crime, property crime and vandalism, drug and alcohol abuse, acquaintance rape, child abuse, drunk driving, and shoplifting. Lessons also cover the structure of the criminal and juvenile justice system and strategies teenagers can use in crime prevention.
